DC Cherry Blossoms Reach Stage 5; Peak Bloom Expected Soon

Washington D.C.'s cherry blossoms have reached stage five, also known as the 'Puffy White' stage, indicating the blossoms are fully formed but not yet open. The National Park Service (NPS) announced this development, signaling that peak bloom is approaching.

Peak bloom, defined as when 70% of the blossoms are open, is currently predicted by the NPS to occur between March 28 and March 31. Temperatures play a crucial role in the progression of the blossoms through their various stages.

Last year, the blossoms reached stage four on March 15 and peak bloom just two days later. The Yoshino cherry trees are the specific variety currently at the 'Puffy White' stage.
